I'm Oliver Hawkins. I work as a data scientist for the House of Commons Library. I have previously worked as a data journalist and a software developer.

I am interested in data, computers and storytelling. This is an occasional blog combining those three things. I use it as a platform for experimenting with data visualisation and writing about statistical programming.

I work mainly with Python, R and JavaScript, researching data related to public policy and Parliament. I like experimenting with statistical methods, machine learning and natural language processing. I am fascinated by the role of data and evidence in public debate and in how people form and change their opinions.

The views expressed here are my own. But as I have a professional responsibility to be politically impartial, the only views expressed here will be on technical subjects of an apolitical nature.
