About me

I'm Oliver Hawkins. I work as an editorial data scientist for the visual and data journalism team at the Financial Times. I have previously worked as a statistician, a data journalist and a software developer, for organisations including the BBC and the House of Commons Library.

I am interested in statistics, machine learning and data visualisation. I work mainly with Python and R, using data science to help journalists find and tell stories. I use Python for machine learning and deep learning, and R for data analysis, statistical modelling and data visualisation. I sometimes make interactive data visualisations with Svelte and D3.
